is it wise to hire household helps thru agencies? a friend of mine hired her nanny thru an agency, thinking that it's safer this way because the agencies supposedly check them out thoroughly before distributing them. all was well for a while until one time, when the help asked for an advance. my friend refused on the grounds that the help has no money left because of her previous advances. the help got mad, picked up a baseball bat and hit my friend's head with it, all in front of her young sons. good thing a neighbor heard the commotion and called the police or my frind wouldn't be alive today. and who knows what might have happened to the sons, too! maybe some of you can disillusion me about the reputation of agency-hired helps.

the help is now in jail, she made sure of that. but the whole family went into therapy coz the kids were shocked. and my friend is still having nightmares. that's why, no matter what, i'm not hiring from agencies.
