Thyme herb in plenty

We do have this herb thyme growing here in India. While I was on tour of New Zealand the bus conductor gave us a commentary on what we could see. He stopped the bus and asked us to look to our left. And there we saw some thick growth of greenery up on the hills and that he said was thyme a herb that is used in salads. I even got off the bus and took a photo posing with this view as the back ground I am not sure if anyone will go up there and use the thyme. What do you think?
