I saw a list of 20 of the most hated countries in the world, a research conducted by World Population Review and noticed that USA, China, Russia, North Korea and Israel are on top. I am surprised to see Italy and the Philippines on this list and wonder what could be the reasons for their inclusion.

Such lists are prepared by people sitting in a room. I don't know on what basis they determine which country is hated or loved.

The Philippines often appears on “most hated countries” lists not because of the people themselves, but due to a mix of global perceptions, stereotypes, and media coverage. Negative news about political unrest, corruption, crime, or poverty can overshadow positive stories, while cultural misunderstandings and occasional incidents involving overseas Filipino workers may amplify unfair stereotypes. Controversial government policies or human rights concerns can also draw international criticism. Additionally, economic struggles are sometimes wrongly generalized as reflecting the nation’s character. Overall, these perceptions are often based on impression rather than reality, as the Philippines is also widely recognized for its hospitality and friendliness.
