This is Frustrating

I am Nigerian and know just how frustrating it can be to be one. The majority of Nigerians are good people struggling to make a decent living. However, the few scammers have tainted the Nigerian name and made it difficult for the world to trust us. I know how many opportunities I have lost as a result of being Nigerian. One time, I got a writing gig that paid a lot and was to become regular. However, the employer cancelled the deal and blocked me as soon as she got to know my nationality. I can't say if anything has ever hurt more than that;paying for a sin that isn't yours. Now, I try to be good every chance I get and hope the few honest Nigerians online will change the tainted perception of Nigerians over time.

Yikes. I admit, I have heard the stereotype of Nigerian scammers being prevalent. I can’t imagine the heaviness that puts on your shoulders.

Yea, it does. It closes the door to opportunities. I can't count the number of times this has happened. Only very few people are willing to give the benefit of the doubt and take a chance. I hope this changes soon.

Some of us may need to immediately change our societal attitudes toward Nigerians. I think only a handful of individuals are causing the "problem." I believe that Nigerians are generally kind and hospitable to others. I hope you can be a pioneer of goodness for your nation in the eyes of the world. And I hope you soon find a good job in the future. I hope no one else is judged for the mistakes of a few.
