Gateway of India is the last point of colonial India in the west. It was erected at a time in 1924 when India was a colony under British rule. It was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V of United Kingdom for the coronation as emperor of India. India became independent in 1947. But the gate is a gateway to venture west from last point of western India.
