Lavatorial distress.

So my toilet guy has been and gone and relieved me of £75 for unblocking my facilities - again.
Before we went to Scotland we thought that we might be experiencing lavatorial sluggishness, but that was on a Saturday night and we were leaving early next morning so we did nothing hoping it would resolve itself over the course of the week: maybe it just needed a rest.
While away my wife messaged our son, and without giving any context asked him to call in at our house and flush the toilet. He obliged once things had been clarified.
So when we got back last night things were still sluggish and upon flushing the water was coming up towards us in the bowl.
First thing this morning I called my toilet guy and sent my wife and daughter down town on a tour of cafes with nice toilets so as not to compound the issue.
Toilet guy came and did his thing and unblocked the potty no problem. While up the sewer he found the problem - roots from a tree were penetrating the sewer and all the stuff was clinging to them. I was relieved because I thought he was going to tell me that we had been going to the toilet the wrong way.
He dealt with the offending roots but obviously they will grow again, so he has recommended a solution but it isn’t urgent.
I actually feel quite vindicated because I’m always going on about planting trees and bushes near the house for this very reason and no-one can now contradict me.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to call the plumber about a clogged toilet. One weekend he charged $399. I get roots in our pipes too and must add copper sulfate to the drain.

My dad does that too. When we were looking at houses, and he was listing positive and negative, I don’t know how often he would say, “Tree’s too close to the house.” Or, “it’s going to cost a lot to cut down that tree. It’s gotta go.”
Great minds think alike!
