Cats with stories

I was doing the Freekibblekat today and this little cat had something. I'll post the link. Now the Freekibble exam asked what this little cat had. I had to rack my brain back almost 55 years. I got the question correct. The little cat spoken of in the story was a lot sicker than Cat. Cat was the little girl my brother brought back when he decided to drop out of college. He had been living in a trailer with 3 other guys and taking care of Cat. The other three guys left. I've had a lot of issues with my brother over the years, but I have absolutely no issue with him not abandoning Cat. Now, he wanted her to have a litter of kittens... I promise you, he had never been around a cat in heat. The first time she was in heat, Mom was in the hospital, I'm not sure exactly why. But the second time she was home and could not put up with Cat's yowling. Yes, she got pregnant. Mom and my sister set her up with a nice little nest in the upstairs bathroom. She came screaming down the stairs to be with Mom when she started having kittens. I wasn't around. First week was good. And then she wasn't good anymore. Cat got mastitis. She lost her milk. She got a giant hole where her milk should be coming from. I knew about a milk replacement for cats. I drove to the best pet shop in town and picked up several cans. After all, she had 6 kittens. Cat did everything a mamma cat should do, we just gave the kittens the one thing she couldn't provide. Cat survived and the kittens all thrived. It may well be because we fed those kittens, the whole litter grew up to be really big cats. My sister wanted to keep one kitten, both Cat, who was my brother's originally, and Sukie, who my sister wanted to keep, ended up as Mom's cats. Now, Mom was a big fan of Cat, but she later forgot she was going to have Suki put to sleep after Cat's death. My parents were going to leave the country for a few weeks. I talked Mom into letting me find her a new home while she was gone. If I failed, we'd look into that then. I found her a good home. The lady had a group of feral cats she was keeping in an outside pen, it was a place to get out of the weather, but they were being kept to be fixed and to be talked about becoming barn cats. She also had a group of inside cats that were also looking for homes. But Suki was her special cat. Suki lay in her lap, slept with her, all those things a beloved pet cat does. I have spoken a few times with the lady since then. We have met on FB. Of course, she's like me and she no longer has pets. I only have 6 these days and the 17 year old dog. So, have you ever had a pet who had a serious illness, an illness that could lead to death? An illness that wasn't like cancer? Yes, I've lost more than a few to cancer.

I am too. Nobody and nothing should die because they aren't the beloved member of the family.
