Doug Martin was a former all pro running back for the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was a fan favorite and was selected one of the top 50 players in franchise history. His style also gave him a nick name of the "Muscle Hamster."
On Saturday, around 4:15am, a break in was called in and of course police go to investigate.
Martin was involved in this break in, he struggled while police attempted to detain him. Once on police custody, 36 year old, Douglas Martin became unresponsive.
Martin's parents sought to clarify the situation for everyone.
He had suffered from mental illness and his parents were trying to arrange for him to get help. Martin became overwhelmed and disoriented so he fled from their house to a neighbor two doors down. The house that was being "broken into" and where the police had taken him into custody.
An investigation is being conducted to find out exactly what happened during the arrest.

It may have been medical too. With what seems like depression and anxiety his heart may have just given out.

@JordanLader Yes, anxiety can definitely cause a heart attack. To their credit, his parents aren’t blaming the police right now.

@AmbiePam I think they knew that he was troubled and probably in shock right now

This is very sad. I hope the police are not to blame.
