Mental health is something we often talk about, but not everyone truly understands how serious it is. The recent passing of Emman Atienza, a 19-year-old Filipina social media influencer here in the Philippines, is a heartbreaking reminder of how real and heavy depression can be. It’s painful to see someone so young, full of dreams, feel that ending their life is the only way to stop the pain. What’s even more alarming is how mental health struggles are affecting people at younger and younger ages. It makes you think, are we really listening enough to those who silently cry for help? picture from ABS-CBN News FB Page

This matter had been taken on a more serious note than say 30 or 40 years ago.

I just wish people would be a little kinder and understanding--- It would mean so much.

I wish we talked about it a lot more. Mental health is just as important as “physical” health. It IS physical health. We need to pay attention, and look for the signs of depression and disturbance.

Exactly. People still separate mental and physical health like they’re two different things when they’re really connected. Ignoring one affects the other. We definitely need to talk about it more and actually listen when someone’s struggling.
