A Little Progress

Today, we went to our OB-GYN appointment. Our 2nd ultrasound was originally scheduled for November 26, but my husband wasn’t allowed to go to work late that day. He asked the front desk if we could move it to December, but they told us that I really needed to come in for the follow-up this week. Honestly, I felt a bit nervous because during my first appointment they didn’t see much — just some thickening of the uterus. But today, they finally saw a gestational sac, which made me feel relieved and hopeful. They asked me to come back again on December 5, and the nurse practitioner said that maybe by then we’ll get to see the baby and hear its heartbeat for the first time. I’m excited, but also a little anxious in a good way. Have you ever felt nervous and excited at the same time while waiting for something important like this?

I’ve never been pregnant, so I have no idea how big those moments feel, but it sure is cool to hear about it. That’s exciting! I do remember when my sister brought her first adopted child to meet us. I was nervous to hold her because she was medically fragile, but was SO excited to snuggle her. She was just an absolute doll. I remember she was 9 months when she came into their care (she spent the first 9 months of her life in the hospital due to her idiot birth mother getting into a fight and causing premature labor). Nine months old, but still so little. The butterflies were real, but she took to me nicely.

Aww thank you, Amber — that really means a lot. And wow, what a beautiful memory with your niece. I can only imagine how emotional that must’ve been, feeling both protective and excited at the same time. Those first moments really stick with you, don’t they?

@AmbiePam That means so much. I’ll definitely share an update after my next appointment. I’m really hoping we get to see a little more this time. It’s nice having someone to share the excitement with.

Thank you so much @RasmaSandra! Your kind words mean a lot. I’m really hoping everything continues to go well too. It’s such a mix of nerves and excitement, but last Monday's appointment definitely gave me a little more peace of mind. Can’t wait for the next visit and hoping for even more good news.
