Worst Predictions About Movies or Film in General?

“I’ll give the talkies three years, that’s all.” — Charlie Chaplin “With YouTube, I think we’ll finally get some good movies.” — me The worst prediction I ever made was Carrie (2013). On paper, it had everything going for it. Kimberly Peirce directing, fresh off Boys Don’t Cry. Julianne Moore. Judy Greer in support. I even thought Chloe Grace Moretz was an interesting choice. I’d just seen her in Hick and liked her, even though at the time I felt Isabelle Fuhrman would’ve been better casting. What really sold me was the idea that there was still room to do something new with Carrie. Same writer as the 1976 version, so I figured: why remake it if you’re not bringing something different to the table? I confidently said it would be huge — easily clear $100 million. Instead, it topped out at about $85 million on a $30 million budget. Not a bomb, but not a hit either. And it came and went without much critical love.

I thought the new version of “Running Man” with Glen Powell would be a box office smash, and it was far from that.

The Carrie of 1976 is one that should not have been copied on my opinion, if not copied just redone, badly.

99% of remakes are horrible. Most sequels, too.
