Women's Month as a First Responder

Next month is women's month. It may not sound like a big deal but to those in the first responder field it kind of is. In the 2020 NFPA data only 9% of firefighters are women. In another collection 30-35% of EMS workers are women. There are probably more statistics that I can find but those are the immediate ones. I'm sure rescue squad is in between both of those percentages. It's time that we get at least some recognition. I don't know how most of the other departments do it though I know they at least recognize the women online. Our rescue squad does as well. Women in this field fight to be seen as equal. I know in our department we don't ask for exceptions or breaks. We get in there and we get the job done just like any other man and we continue to fight and to prove ourselves daily. I don't pull the female card....ever but I think a little acknowledgment isn't asking for a lot.

No, it isn’t too much to ask.

Women should be recognized in whatever role they play, but especially for first responders.
