Self talk is very important! / myLot

I have been doing a coaching class to help people manage their finances here in Israel. The financial system is a bit different than in the United States, and there are many things that are similar too. One thing that I am going to insist upon is that people change their self talk. Instead of saying "I can't" or "I must" when talking about their finances, I will coach them to say "I want" this give more power to the person. People control, for the most part, except for paying taxes, what they spend their money on. So saying "I want to save 10% of my income each month" is more empowering than saying "I have to save 10% of my income each month." What other phrases can you think of that have similar emotional overtones?

I like that a lot. I guess all I can think of is instead of “I’ll try” to say “I will.” I believe my behavior might be different if I stuck to that kind of self talk. You’re doing valuable work.
