I like quite a few movie soundtracks, but I think my absolute favorite two are:
Blues Brothers (the original, 1980) songs on this album include:
She Caught the Katy – Jake (performed by John Belushi)
Peter Gunn Theme – Jake
Gimme Some Lovin' – Jake
Shake a Tail Feather – Ray Charles, Jake & Elwood
Everybody Needs Somebody to Love – Jake & Elwood, Patty Austin, Vivian Cherry, Ullanda McCullough
The Old Landmark – James Brown, Rev. James Cleveland Choir
Think – Aretha Franklin, Brenda Corbett, Margaret Branch, Caroline Franklin
Theme from Rawhide – Elwood & Jake
Minnie the Moocher – Cab Calloway
Sweet Home Chicago – Elwood & Jake
-and-
The Big Chill (1983) - songs on this album include:
"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" – Marvin Gaye
"Ain’t Too Proud to Beg" – The Temptations
"Good Lovin’" – The Rascals
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" – Procol Harum
"The Weight" – The Band
"You Don’t Own Me" – Lesley Gore
"I Got You (I Feel Good)" – James Brown
"Time of the Season" – The Zombies
"(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet" – Blues Magoos
"Quicksilver Girl" – Steve Miller Band
Both are chock full of songs that I know and love and can sing over and over again.
This reminds me that I need to add these soundtracks to my playlist for working out at the gym.

The Bodyguard soundtrack was a good one because I loved Whitney Houston, but my favorite was the soundtrack to “Shrek”. It rocked (you can’t beat All Star and Hallelujah). Also the soundtrack to “Hope Floats”, that movie with Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr..

For the actual movie, I’d go with Rocky Horror Picture Show or O Brother, Where Art Thou. Compilation songs would be American Graffiti and, like you, The Big Chill.

One of my favorite soundtracks is from the Sylvester Stallone movie "Paradise Alley" which came out in 1978 which had some music from the mid 1940s.
