I didn't fall off the stupid wagon last week lol, I'm no Dummy Where did this come from? well I have a story to tell you about how people can take you or any 1 they think they can for a fool. How is it said they see you coming when it's in THEIR favor to scam you any way they can & they get away with it & your stuck with the outcome, UNLESS you think ahead of time & stop them. So with that said, let me set the conversation up on HOW all this started & how it all came out. So if you don't like LONG stories I'd suggest you find another post to read, but if you DO like long stories, then your in for a treat on HOW to stop scammers from trying to rob you blind & taking you for a fool for letting them. 1st off I need a huge tree taken down in the back yard & since we have had all the other trees taken out we just had this 1 that is in a BAD place, where it's hard to get to to cut or to knock down. I've tried to find some 1 that would do the job but to no avail hum? well after it's been 3 yrs (right after I got out of the hosp time wise) I finally find some 1 on F B & asked if he would be interested in taking a look at the tree I have & see what he would hit me for. So a few days later he comes by, takes a look at it & says that's a nasty looking tree I can see why no 1 wants to take it down it's HOLLOW all the way through from the bottom UP ! ! ! where any wildlife could or has or CAN make a home in it, NO GOOD. He takes pictures all the way around the tree, see's the area where you can't get NO BIG machinery close to it & the hollow holes at the base of it & tells me that it's not going to be a cheap job & it's going to take a few days to get it down cause WHY? It has to be climbed & cut in sections & about 3-5 guys to do it which will take about 2-4 days, this isn't a big tree, BUT big enough so anyway, he tells me about other trees he has worked on & how much he charged & blah blah blah, then he says the BEST I can do is 5.000.00$ well I knew it wasn't going to be cheap BUT DAMN ! ! ! I told him I can't just come off that kind of $ like poof ! ! ! & we're both on a fixed income & it HAS to come down, can you take pymts? NOPE well I'm like hum let me work on what I can come up with & get back with you. I told my husband the best & ONLY thing we can do is see if the bank will give us a loan for that kind of cash with NO collateral cause we don't have anything worth that kind of $. Well we talked it over & went to the bank & asked if they help us out BUT B-4 we did that I took a video of the tree so they could see why it needed to come down & we weren't just trying to scam them so the lady looked at our credit report that's close to 800 looked at our income barely 3.000$ looked at what we COULD use for collateral we had nothing. She seen the ONLY income we have coming in is our S S & VA well after we all talked about it & she looked at the video, we told her we would like to have it on a 3 yr pymt & not over 200$ thank god she has dealt with us over the past few yrs & knows what we have been through over the yrs with my health & bills. She worked up some papers & says they don't do this for every 1 & not very often with a lot of people but she didn't see no problems in us getting the $ we needed & to come back the next day cause she had to talk with her supervisor about it to see if it would go. So there's that, we came back the next day & we got the $ she asked if we wanted it to go to the person doing the job or have it put in OUR name & we pay them after the job was done? Guess which way we went? we had the check put in our name yep sure did, BUT we cashed it & have the $ here at home. When I got back home I told the guy we have the $ & I made a photo of the check they gave me to show him that we were for real & pull no punches when it comes to $ I told him we're good to go & ready when he is, so he THOUGHT. So NOW here comes the conversation we got into on getting the tree down & how it come out so get you a drink & a snack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Me >Check is in the bank. (5.000.00) to have a massive tree cut down. Him OK sounds good. We will finish the project that we’re on and you will be next. me Awesome, I sure will be glad to see it gone Him We will get everything on a contract with all the specific details of what we’re doing and the price we will have you to sign and date it. You will get a copy and we will settle up by Check if that’s what you prefer before we get started and you will get a copy showing everything’s paid. "THIS is where he thought he was dealing with a dummy" me I have to keep the $ in the bank till the job is done, cause the bank don't want any mishaps, but we can get it the day B-4 the job is done & you can get solid green cash. Me I hope that's o.k cause the bank don't like rip offs & to be safe that's the only way we could have got the $ to do this. "This was the next day cause we got in after 5pm" Him Good morning it’s James. I am sorry that goes against our policy for this particular type of job. I’m sorry. Me That's crazy, people don't like getting ripped off & they have to pay for it Which isn't fair, & the people get a way with it ! ! ! So you have to understand it's not my decision & like I said The $ is IN THE BANK IN GREEN BACKS $ $ $ Him Nobody should ever be ripped off or treated unfair. Everything that we do is done by contract so everything is on paper and signatures when we do projects, it’s just a policy put in place many decades ago by my father on particular jobs like this that are emergency class three by our standards that they have to have full payment upfront or half upfront at our discretion. I assure you every job that we do throughout the week and month it’s not the same scenario, but we required deposits and clean it up from that is not an everyday scenario We put everything on paper to help protect both parties. me It's going to take us 3 yrs to pay off the loan At 200 $ a month with INTEREST & to get ripped off just cause they can & there's nothing we can do about it isn't right. Him I will talk to the office about this particular scenario I assure you, I do not want you to get "rid of stuff" by anybody This how he wrote what you are looking at Above. rid of stuff You and your project is important to me Me O.k then, That sounds more like it, That we can do, we're not going any where. Him You are more than welcome to call me. I have about 10 minutes before I get to my appointment. Me We can't trust any 1 after all the times we've been taking granted of. So if we can get this done YOU HAVE MY WORD ! ! ! you will get PAID. Him Yes, I understand it is hard and I’m sorry that something has happened to you in the past. That’s why we do everything on contract of any size, legal binding contract with dates and signatures to ensure that our customers feel safe. Me Yea We've been taken from the same way with contracts & that's why we had to do the whole remodel on the cabin cause people say they were safe & took our $ just to never show up again. I'm not saying you would be like that but I just can't take that chance & risk everything we have including our marriage. Me I'll be here when you have an answer. Him I’ve discussed this with my son and we’re gonna go ahead and do this for you. We will write up the paperwork and a contract which it protects you as well, and we will have you to sign and date it before we start and you can pay us on the second day, because it will take us two days to complete. It will be one day next week before we start possibly Tuesday or so. So you see how his attitude changed after I told him the $ has to stay in the bank till the job was done? & how he made it right just to get the job & the $ ? yeah he found out I'm 1 that won't bow down till they come to my TERMS. That's how you deal with people on ANY job you want to get done, we have the $ right here at the house, but HE doesn't know that, & he won't till the job is started & DONE. I'm tired of people thinking they can rip people off & get away with it & take us for a fool & enjoy our hard to come by income. So you think about who your dealing with & listen real close how they talk & their actions & tell them you need to talk it over with your spouse or your bank & get SOMETHING in writing & take photos of what you need done & have the BANK check them out, & NEVER hand ANY 1 cash till they do the job. Thank you for sticking around to the end, I hope you learned something by learning from the way I handle business.

We just went through a lot of "draws" from the bank we had to approve for work done on the property. Most banks want to see the work done and they release the funds. It's better to deal directly that way and then it helps make sure it's done right. We are looking to get a huge cedar out and it will cost us $2K just to fell it. If they chop, clean, and haul, it's another grand. My son said just take it down, we will saw and clean it up. With prices going up with fuel etc. we expect cost to go up if we don't do it now.

@2ndchances24 Thank you. It's a lot to be done still but once that tree is gone, we can do a huge portion in a couple days.

@noni1959 same here, with the tree we have once it's out of the way we can get rid of a bunch of leaves & do something with the old dog pen area & clean the area up where it doesn't look so trashy.

I would have gotten at least one other estimate too. You have to be so careful with these contractors. That's why I get mine off the BBB website. I'm glad you were careful.

@2ndchances24 It's ridiculous for them to charge that much.

@LindaOHio I agree but just think what it would cost if it fell on a structure like your house or work shed with all your tools & stuff in it, what would THAT cost to replace ? so yea, it's not cheap.

I've tried to get other estimates & there anywhere b-tween 10,000 & UP that's why it's taken so long to get someone to do the job.
