What life lesson took you years to learn?

Life has a way of teaching us lessons, but sometimes those lessons don’t come easy. There are things we only truly understand after going through challenges, mistakes, or even regrets.
For me, one lesson that took time to learn is that not everything is under our control, and that’s okay. I used to stress over situations I couldn’t change, but over time I realized that focusing on what I can control makes life a lot less overwhelming.
If i have a small project due before, missing things, i used to stress about it. My mom was alive back then, so when she was gone, i needed to stand on my own, solve things on my own.
It’s interesting how some lessons only make sense after years of experience.
What about you? What is a life lesson that took you years to fully understand?

I’m not really sure. I guess not to always take the Bible literally. Obviously, parables are parables, but when my mom got dementia at the age of 46 I remembered the verse about having the faith of a mustard seed. I didn’t consciously make the decision, but somewhere along the line I thought if I had enough faith my mom wouldn’t get any worse. Well, obviously, she got much worse. I thought if I had had more faith she would have done better. It was only years later I came to realize how messed up my thinking was.

Don't sweat the small stuff. I'm still learning that lesson.
