The 4 different types of dals or lentils keep the taste buds active

There is a feeling the same food day after day can disturb the taste buds. For those reasons, there are 4 dals I eat masoor, moong, biuli and arhar in alternate days. these lentils are eaten with rice. They can also be eaten with chapati

Yes the variety of Pulses is great and provide different feel and taste. Then we also have 'Sabut" - wholesome and "Dhuli" - split and normally slightly lighter than the Sabut ones.

I eat brown lentils most of the time . I also have peas and beans.
