Does it Still Bother You?

I just read the online version of the newspaper for our city.
They stated that a new variant of COVID 19 is making its rounds. There have been 20 reported cases in the province of Ontario, where I live, however, the article did not state if any were in the city that we live in.
I get my booster shots every November and May.
And ever October and April, I get wind of another variant, and the worry begins to set in. I can never erase the memory of the huge make shift outdoor morgues that the news would air from around the world. I cannot and could not, at the time, imagine the fear of dying alone that so many must have experienced.
I believe that this fear has given me the respect that I need to claim that I have never had COVID and will likely never test positive for it. Does the news of new COVID 19 variants bother you at all?

No, it doesn’t bother me. I had covid for the second time back in January, and thankfully I can say I’ve had worse cases of bronchitis than that was (not so the first time I had it, in 2020). There are new variants of the flu every year (which is why flu shots don’t always work: they’re “guessing” what variants of the flu will be most prevalent, and they’re not always right).

I wasn't aware that you have survived covid not once but twice.
I was changing purses yesterday and I think that I am the only person who still carries disposable masks in my purse. I also have them in the glovebox of the car.
I have had such terrible bouts of the pneumonia in the past few years that I cannot fathom how I would feel with covid.

No, it doesn’t (as of now). I had peace about it back in 2020, and I have peace about it now. That is not at all to say I wasn’t concerned the first time my dad had it, and had it badly. But I wore the masks, washed my hands, and gave it to God. HOWEVER, If I were older and had a ton of risk factors? I might very well have worried about it too. And there is something to be said about not being afraid for yourself, but being afraid for loved ones. I’d be much more concerned about you getting it than me. I think that is what it boils down to. Fear for others, not for myself.

Yes, I can see your point of view.
Being part of a minority in the workplace in age, I just do not trust the majority of workers.
I have to go into the office to work next week on Friday.
I know that the COVID cleaning protocols have not been adhered to and we have sanitizing wipes to clean down the desks but the other surfaces, and the HVAC system, I hate to think of the germs that they possess.

I agree - my best friend is a liver transplant recipient, and so I am always extremely mindful of protecting his health. I even got an updated MMR shot last year when I found out that my childhood vaccination wasn't the most effective.

Nothing bothers me anymore I think my decision to hibernate in my apartment is a really good one and I do not miss going out, I have nowhere to go and noone to see and I feel safe in these four walls,

I get so frightened when I think back to what we had to endure during the lockdown.
I would never want to go back to those days.
We still have the COVID booster shots free for those wanting it every 6 months, and I take advantage of it.
My husband no longer takes it, but he has never been stricken with COVID, so he is doing something right.

It doesn't really disturb my thoughts, but I am aware of how important it is to be vaccinated, and I get the most updated vaccine every fall. My sister and her husband had it early on before there was a vaccine and still have some lingering side effects. My husband also gets vaccinated and he had it last year, but it was very mild. Fortunately, I didn't get it myself.

Not too much..I have have my shots and I don't spend a tremendous amount of time interacting with people on the outside.

No, I don't interact with many either, but I am always fearful that when I am in the grocery store, opening freezer doors and whatnot that I may touch my nose or eyes before I leave and get out to the SUV for my hand sanitizer. I have always been a germaphobe.
