Woman Refuses to Return Mistaken Payroll Payment

United States
April 10, 2026 1:09pm CST
A woman in Arkansas worked for a company earning $16.50/hr. Then one payday a glitch hit the system and she got paid $1650.00/hr. She got nearly a $20,000 paycheck, obviously in error. She refuses to give the money back to the employer. They have pressed charges for theft. She's been arrested. She KNOWS that money isn't hers but she won't give up the accidental "windfall."

It's not very smart of her to keep the money.

When it comes to money, it's hard to find an honest person.

That’s not the first time I’ve heard of that kind of mistake.

Once I got more from a check I had encashed at a bank. When I realized the error I returned the excess. The cashier was shocked at her oversight. Obviously, it is the right thing to do as someone has to pay for the mistake and the excess money was not mine.

I have heard of this before. But I think she would have just returned.
