What is the fanciest restaurant you have eaten at?

Oh, this is a memory I have from about 1992. I was 27 years old.
I traveled for work and found myself in New Orleans where the lawyer that did our work in Louisiana was going to take me out to a business dinner.
I was wearing braces on my teeth at that time and had just had them tightened the day before I got to New Orleans so my teeth were very sore and I couldn't eat anything but soft foods.
The attorney picked me up at my hotel and took me to the most famous most expensive most fancy place in New Orleans at that time. It was called Commander's Palace.
So there we are in this fancy place with white linen tablecloths and crystal glasses and several sets of forks and knives. The butler-type male servers were dressed in fancy attire and stood nearby to attend to your every need. If you dropped a crumb on the table, they immediately brushed it up. If you took a sip of water, they were immediately there to refill your glass.
It was super fancy.
But I couldn't eat anything. My teeth hurt so badly from the braces.
That's really all I remember.

Were people dressed up fancy? Men wearing jackets/suits? Chandeliers?

Sounds like fun other tan the problem with the braces. In terms of fancy either high tea at Harrods or the Kapok Tree restaurant that used to be in Florida. IT is closed now.

My husband used to take me to the Venus De Milo Steakhouse in the city near where we used to live.
We went there 2 or 3 times a year while we were dating, and once we began a family we only went on Valentines Day as it was difficult to get a sitter, and it wasn't a place for children at all.
It had lovely upholstered furniture, amazing atmosphere and service, and the food was incredible.
Sadly, it caught fire and burned down in the mid 90's and the lot, on the very edge of town, sat empty for a couple of decades. A building was put up, but now it is just a rib house type of place. Nothing fancy nor expensive.
I have found that restaurants that change their menu attract different denominations of customers, and although diversity is great, it does not mean that what you came to expect at such a place remains each time you return.
After that place burned down we began to go to Casa Bella, which was a huge old Victorian home, with a huge addition and lovely garden type of patio overlooking the river. We ate there a few times a year before we moved from that area. They were well known for their private yet amazing dining experience.

@looeyville how disappointing that you couldn’t enjoy it properly. I hate it when waiters fuss around me too much. I was tempted to hit a waiter once who draped a napkin over my “area” like I was a child. My fanciest I think were the Mount Soche in Blantyre, Malawi, the Ashoka in New Delhi, the Merchant in Belfast and Kilronan Castle in county Roscommon. Oh and Castle Leslie in county Monaghan. Fancy of course doesn’t always guarantee a satisfactory meal. However the food and service in the aforementioned were deeply satisfying. Best of all - quality clientele who knew how to behave.

I'm sorry you couldn't eat anything. I've never been in a fancy restaurant.
