If you noticed, there was no teaser for a new music countdown for May. There is a good reason for that. I’m on the road right now, and it really is difficult to do both. Some days when I’m doing laundry I have a hard time keeping up here! (I’m old, too, but….) More significantly, though, is the request that @JudyEv gave me. It’s a stinking brilliant idea: most-covered songs. It’s also one that requires a LOT of research. So watch this space for lists, yes plural, of songs that have been covered out the wazoo. If you’re interested, or even if you aren’t, the most covered song that I can find is Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” which has chalked up over 2,700 recordings since Bing Crosby first sang it in 1941. That includes everything you can imagine, and maybe things you can’t, like this doo-wop cover from the Drifters!

I usually get up a little earlier on the road, simply because I don’t know when I’ll eat or if there’ll be WiFi at the restaurant. I’m planning on including country covers, so Hubby will be happy….

@FourWalls So will you use the original artist in the post or a cover?

@LooeyVille — I think it’s going to depend on finding an exceptional cover.

That was a unique song style. Not sure if many would like that. Yet it is quite original !

The problem with covering a song, especially one as popular as “White Christmas,” is that the singer is stuck: do it like “everybody else” has done it, or put a new spin on the song? It’s a very precarious tightrope to walk!
