Is our society failing or is it simply survival instincts?

There is something i have noticed recently, it seems these days most people tend to act as bystanders when they come across an emergency, or see something wrong, rather than actually help out. Recently something happened, and it was all over the news over here, and the funny thing was that it happened in my town and at a place i have been to several times. A guy was sent by a friend to send a waybill for him, on getting there, while arguing with the price, they decided to open the waybill, and found out it was a gun. On seeing this the people there quickly tie him up and called the police accusing him to be a criminal. The police came and instead of carrying out proper investigation, they beat him up, shot him, and at the end of the day killed him. I watched the video and it was painful, the guy before he was killed was begging for his life that he knew notting about the content of the waybill, and that he was willing to carry them to the actual person who sent him, but they still killed him, all this was done while people watched and even video. This made me wonder, do people just choose to be bystanders because of survival instincts, cause probably anyone who might have wanted to intervene might end up dead as well or wounded, or is our society simply failing? What do you guys think about this?

I read the story.. couldn't watch the video. I guess people just don't care. May Nigeria never happen to us

It was really sad honestly, and seeing it happen on video, knowing it's not a movie but real hits differently

The police were there so you should not interfere. It's very sad that they killed him and I hope they will be prosecuted
