We have all come across strange names carried by towns, villages and streets in our wonderings. In Rennes today I came across this thoroughfare that glories in the name Rue Le B*stard. It was named after a former mayor of Rennes, Edgard Le B*stard in the 1800s and no-one has seen fit to re-name it. Can you imagine the time you would have in school with a name like that? Anyway, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to photograph it for your delight.

@AmbiePam You would think the city fathers should have renamed it - they’ve had since 1890.

@xFiacre It's a very historic name, apparently William the Conqueror was known as 'William the b'stard' and it didn't do him any harm!

@looeyville Imagine living on that street and having to always give your address to anyone! “My address? 54 B*stard Street officer”.

Are there descendents of the Le B'stard family around today I wonder? Presumably the origin of the name is as you would expect - I think it has the same meaning in English as in French?
