Red rice sushi? Why not!

For my second sushi experiment, I swapped white rice for whole-grain red rice. It required a bit of adjusting—the red rice needed more water and a longer cooking time to get that perfect sushi consistency.Since the texture is firmer than regular sushi rice, I had to roll it extra carefully. But the result was a wonderful surprise! It tasted incredibly flavorful. My husband was thrilled because he always prefers whole grains. They are packed with nutrition and feel like real, wholesome food.It was absolutely worth the extra effort!

What's inside? Did you try other filling?

I kept the filling inside my red rice sushi simple with just avocado, mainly because I didn't have much time to plan it. My main focus was experimenting with the sushi rice itself! Next time, I plan to try out other fillings. I’ll probably use carrots, cucumber, seasoned fried tofu, or maybe even pickled jalapeños.

It really is! It's a great healthy twist that still hits that sushi craving. You should definitely give it a try at home!

Yes, we did! Maybe it was because red sushi rice was totally new to us, so it felt like we were trying a rare, seasonal treat. So, yes, we really enjoyed it.
