Duck update

I was sure I had written about this already, but apparently not.
A few days after I wrote that our garden pond seemed to be attractive to a couple of Mallard ducks, I noticed that they seemed to have created a little alcove under a sedge plant at the edge of the pond, and when I looked closer I could see a rudimentary nest with an egg in it!
Well that was very exciting, but the ducks were both away at the time so I wasn’t sure if it had been abandoned due to a change of plan. But next day I looked again, and there were two eggs, then three the next day, and finally four.
When I checked on the fifth day, I couldn’t see the eggs at all because Mrs Mallard was sitting on them!
I hope it all works out for her, it’s a long wait.
