Cultural differences in a group

I had this group in school. We were group of three. This was for our group presentation. So basically in the beginning when we were just getting to know each other, we didn't have any problems. So I have an American and an Italian group mates. Later on, when we started doing our project, that's where the chaos and disagreements started. We're basically didn't agree on what our project would be. One group mate only wanted her idea. And of course the two of us didn't agree for that to happen. I just wonder why some people are like this. She literally planned everything by herself. So that's the initial friction. The two of us aired our thoughts and feelings towards her attitude and wanting to lead. In the end, of course we all both agreed and made compromise. I know this cultural differences can be tough. We should respect each other's culture and share tasks. Can you describe a time when you joined a new group or entered a new cultural environment and encountered something like this? How did you handle the friction and how did you stay true ti your own personal beliefs?

this kind of friction is bound to happen, if somebody egoist tries to supersede others

I couldn't agree more. It's definitely an ego thing. She basically wanted to put herself on spotlight and the two of us as backup dancers lol. But of course we didn't let her.

@k_krist Not particularly Until very recently there wasn't much in the way of cultural diversity in Scotland. But we welcome them all from where ever they come and then different cultures integrate quite well and they become part of who and what we are.

I never really had cultural disagreements in college when I worked in a group, but, of course, I got in a group where me and one other did all the work while the third person just watched. I guess a cultural difference could be pure laziness.

I have never been in such a situation before. But what I will say is at some point, we need to reach a compromise
