We are just a couple weeks away from the start of the 2026 edition of the Tour de France. It took a few years after the Lance Armstrong confession, but American Cycling is relevant again, thanks to a few hearty individuals that have been making noise in Europe the past few seasons. So I thought I’d point out some of these gentlemen. And while I don’t know the actual Tour rosters yet, these fellows have had a way of finding their way to the start in France lately, and standing out.
We’ll start with Captain America, Quinn Simmons. Born in Durango, Colorado in 2001, Simmons is a former U.S. Junior National Champion and the current U.S. National Road Race Champion. Even if he weren’t flying the U.S. Champion jersey around Europe, Quinn Simmons would still stand out thanks to his flowing long hair and fiery moustache.
He’s also quite talented.
Riding for Lidl-Trek, Simmons is primarily a domestique that works for the team leader. A breakaway specialist, Quinn is often found out in the break, and on those rare days when the breakaway succeeds, Simmons has the strength to contend for the win.
Simmons’ most recent win was just last week, winning (from the breakaway) Stage 4 of the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alps (formerly known as the Criterium du Dauphine, a popular Tour de France tune-up race.)
Oh, and at the end of the 2025 Tour de France, he proposed to his girlfriend on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
