Memorial Service

June 20th, my brother mentioned there was to be a memorial service for Rene Baterbonia, that young budding basketball star who drowned I mentioned in my previous post, to be held at my mom's hometown. Rene happened to be a distant relative and the relatives from here wanted to honor him and give him a memorial service. We were invited and it was my brother who went but he was warned by his daughter not to be in any photographs. Why the warning? Rene is in every news and we all think that the memorial service is just for the hype which lacks sincerity. We hardly knew him, we never met him. He never set foot in this place where his father's parents and grandparents used to be. We felt sad, like any stranger did who heard that sad news. But do we grieve? I doubt it.

For sure, there will be lots of cameras around there. I do feel sorry for them.

Fortunately, my brother went there only to visit an uncle but didn't participate in the memorial service.

I hope that the photographers don't ruin the ceremony.
