I went out to feed the "Kids" There were 2 or 3 of them at the two trees. I fed everyone and then I took my Rolator and sat on it close to the two trees. At first the squirrels kept their distance, but after a few minutes, they started doing what they normally do..search and eat food. I put most of the nuts and seeds in the picnic table feeder and an ear of corn on that feeder. But I scatter some of the nut mixture on the ground around the tree area. As I sat there very still and quiet, they were inches from my feet. One even came and sniffed my shoe. I had No food with me, not even a peanut. So I got up and went back to the garage. A little while later Buddy came up to the garage door, and I had a peanut in my hand. He came within probably 6" from the peanut. I dropped it and he took it. Later in the day I was back out in the garage and Buddy came looking for a peanut. I dropped one close to me. He took it, and went and sat about a foot away and ate it watching me. I gave him another one, and he went out a little further and laid down flat on the ground while eating it. That is how they stay cool when it is hot, they lay flat...usually on the tree. But he laid on the ground really close. I can hardly wait to go back out and sit by the trees with some food, and see what happens. I made Mexican Lasagna for supper. Put Sour Cream on top and some Hot Pickled Banana Peppers on it. Used some Mexican Street Corn Tostitos and kind of ate it like Nachos.
