What's wrong with a player leaving the world cup for the birth of his child?

June 21, 2026 11:56pm CST
Jeremy Doku, the Belgian player who seems to be one of the best in the team was reported to have let the Belgium world cup camp for the birth of his first child. Now, everyone is blaming him for the poor performance of the team against Iran where they got a red card and end up playing a goalless draw. Is the player right or wrong to have abandon the world cup for child birth?

The player did nothing wrong, and it’s sad anyone would blame him for something that wasn’t his fault. His first priority should be family.

Is the player right or wrong to have abandon the world cup for child birth? I wish Grant Hanley had abandoned Scotland's World Cup squad

I wouldn't blame him. The birth of a child is a very important moment for a father, especially if it's his first child. But if I were in his position, I would make sure my family was there for my wife during the birth before deciding to leave the team. If my family was there, then I would continue fighting for my country, but if no one was there for my wife, then I would be there for her.
