How we spent Father's Day weekend

As I've mentioned previously, we've had a rough go of it recently, so this weekend we tried to do something fun as a family and attempted to celebrate Father's Day to the best of our ability. My husband works early on Monday morning, so we decided to celebrate Father's Day a little bit on Saturday. We went to a Drive-in movie and saw Toy Story 5. It was the first Drive-in either my son or I had been to. I've been wanting to go to one for a while, but it's difficult since you have to wait until it gets late to go, and as I mentioned, my husband gets up very early on Monday morning. Growing up, we didn't really have a lot of Drive-in theaters around that were still open, but COVID brought a lot of them back due to social distancing, and they've remained open. Drive-ins are often cheaper and offer more freedom than a typical theater. You can lie down in your car or get out and put down a blanket. You can do things without disturbing others, like if you have small children, by letting them climb around the front seat or run around in your area. It's actually a really good option for smaller children. My mom always talked about going to Drive-ins when she was younger, but as a child, I never got to experience it, so it was nice being able to go with my husband and son. My son lay down in the backseat, and my husband put his seat back and actually ended up falling asleep and missing the last half of the movie. There was also a second feature, but there was no way we were staying for it, as it was already around 11 when Toy Story was done. We weren't the only ones who left; a lot of people were leaving. I also had no real desire to see The Mandalorian, which was the second feature. I was never a big Star Wars fan. Before the movie, we had run some errands and then went to a little farmers' market and picked up some fruits and vegetables. We got McDonald's for breakfast, which is a rarity. Most of the time, we don't eat breakfast, and when we do, it's usually something at home, but we were all hungry and had a lot to do while out. We got Subway before the movie. After the movie, everyone came home and basically went right to sleep. For actual Father's Day, we had to go grocery shopping, and we let my husband nap in the car while my son and I ran in and got groceries. Before grocery shopping, we let my husband choose where to eat for lunch and did a small drive. It was a beautiful day here, temperature-wise. It sprinkled a little but didn't pour down. We saw a lot of fathers out fishing with their kids. My husband and son love fishing, but we had too much to do today. Hopefully, they'll get to go a few times before it gets too cold to fish. Usually, when they go fishing, I stay home and enjoy some me time and then make everyone dinner. The boys usually pack snacks and drinks and stay out for a few hours. Hopefully, my husband enjoyed his Father's Day to the best of his ability. As I said, we have had it a bit rough here lately. The term when it rains, it pours is a pretty accurate description for us lately.

My father loves fish...so on Sunday we had some varieties of fish for lunch and dinner, plus we had ordered a cake for him

Unfortunately, we never celebrate Father's Day. Father's Day isn't common in my country. We usually celebrate Mother's Day.

I know not every country celebrates it, which is why I said for those that do, I hope fathers get other kinds of recognition where you're from, because good fathers do deserve some recognition.
