As you know, I named my new car The Ark. It’s an appropriate name with all this rain we’re getting.
It stopped raining long enough for me to swim out to the garage and get out for lunch, and now you’ll be treated to another song on my list of favorites with a Beatles reference.
#5: I Dig Rock and Roll Music - Peter, Paul, and Mary
This is one of those great songs of the 60s. You can take it at face value and see a folk group celebrating rock and roll, just like a lot of rockers celebrated folk singers like Dylan.
On the other hand, you can take it as a sarcastic dig at popular music that was driving the folk revival out of business. Mary Travers (I always like to point out that she was born here in Louisville) said, “When the fad changed from folk to rock it didn’t take along any good writers.”
Whichever option you pick, or both, or neither, this is a great song, complete with an impersonation of the Mamas and the Papas that’s the highlight of the song.
I Dig Rock and Roll Music
Written by Paul Stookey, James Mason, and Dave Dixon
Recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary
From Album 1700, 1967
BEATLES REFERENCE LYRICS:

Just now
I think the only songs I've heard from them are "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Puff." They did do a version of "Leaving on a Jet Plane?"
