I feel a possible all-nighter coming on, which means watching You Tube videos of concerts I’ve been to. This particular show was the Miki Berenyi Trio at Denver’s Bluebird Theater 06/06/2024.
Miki Berenyi was born in London (Chelsea, to be exact) in 1967. She is best known as the guitarist/vocalist for late-80’s/early 90’s shoegaze/dream pop band Lush. In addition to her trio, she is in a band with her partner, Kevin “Moose” McKillop (who fronts an indie band called Moose) and Modern English (“I Melt with You”) bassist Mick Conroy, called Piroshka.
In this particular case, Moose is afraid to fly, apparently, so Conroy was the bassist on this tour. It all tied together. The band (Oliver Cherer on guitar) played their way through a good portion of Berenyi’s back catalogue, which meant quite a few Lush covers (“Ladykillers” was a standout,) as well as Moose and Piroshka songs, and a few MB3 songs to boot.
I never got to see Lush, so I was determined to see this show, and I wasn’t disappointed. Not a raucous show, but a damn good one.
Photo is of Miki and myself before the show. I look like I'm in shock.
(I swear I talked to her in Belgium in 1989 at Rock Werchter, but I didn’t ask her if she was there, because what was I going to follow up with? “Do you remember two drunk idiot American G.I.’s complimenting you on your hair?”
) Besides, I’ve actually talked to her now, so it’s irrelevant.
Link is to the entire show, all I could find on You Tube. I was in front, just to the left of Miki, but I’m not in this one. Whatever you watch should at least give you a feel:

If you aren't a fan of shoegaze or dream pop, you probably wouldn't have heard anything by her. It's an acquired taste for some, at least shoegaze. Dream pop is pleasing to the ear.

You probably have heard Lush on the BBC at some point but don't realize it. They were pretty popular in England then.

It was a good show. Then again, I've only left a couple of shows disappointed.
