Do you have a code word?

I called my bank to double check the balance in my account was what I thought it was. They asked my bank account or my Social Security number, they asked my driver’s license number, and then they they asked my code word. Code word? I asked them if I had indeed given them a code word, and they said yes, I had. I scanned my brain for what I might have said when I remembered my cable company used to make me answer a question to agree to talk to me about my account. I remembered what my answer to that question so I repeated that answer to the bank employee. I was right! I said, “All right! I remembered something!” Which sent the bank employee into genuine laughter. I mean, I was really excited because I did not remember when they went to a code word. Though, I appreciate that they added an extra layer of security. So, I was wondering about you guys. I don’t want to know what it is, but do you have to give code words to get access to your information in some form? Cable company, phone company, bank, or for something else?

Yes, typically if it is a spoken code, I give a 3 digit number, if it is online then I have a very specific, case sensitive word that I use. When our son started to school all of those years ago, he had to choose a code word, so that if someone came to pick him up, besides me or Dad, then he had to ask for the code word, and they had to give it. That was only in the case of an emergency, if we couldn't be there for some unknown reason. His choice word, that he picked at the tender age of 4, was jaguar. And no, we did not own one nor did we know of anyone who owned one. Funny what kids 'know' at certain ages, especially before the internet.

My first thought was, of course you didn’t own a jaguar…I forgot a Jaguar was also a car! I like that they needed a code word to pick up a child.

@AmbiePam We sure didn't, my hubby carried a lunchpail to work as a factory worker for the (Canadian Auto Workers) CAW, then he did not want any foreign vehicles parked in our yard. Funny how times and thoughts change.

Our banks didn't add that extra layer of security but they ask a lot of questions if you want an information from them...and you must get them correctly..a code word would be a great idea though
