There Are Reasons that I Don't Like My Cousins

I posted a few days ago about being the "weirdo" in the extended family among the many cousins who live 2 hours north of where I live. Then these memories entered my mind this morning and now I remember why I don't want to see my cousins. Patty: I hadn't seen Patty in 15+ years in 1999 or so and I was visiting her mom, my Aunt, when the Aunt said, "Let's go stop by Patty's" So we did. The very first words out of Patty's mouth when she saw me wasn't "Hi, it's good to see you" or "Hey, how have you been, thanks for stopping by." It was, "Well, I see you finally got fat like the rest of us." That really hurt. And it was uncalled for. I haven't seen her since. Bobby: I hadn't seen Bobby in 30 years and I made a special point to have a book signing up near where my cousins live back when I was an author. He came and the first words out of his mouth, literally, were, "What happened to you? You used to be pretty." Jack: He was my favorite, though eccentric, uncle growing up. He was dying and he visited him one last time and while it wasn't the very first words he said, it was within the first 10 minutes, "I don't care what anybody else says, I still think you're pretty." What the hell people?! This is why I don't associate with my extended family. They are unkind and I don't want to be hurt. Do you have any mean family like I have?
