It’s not always a case of bloodlines, but in this case, yeah, it’s the bloodlines. When your dad is Hank Williams, Jr, and your grandfather is Hank Williams, what are you gonna do, become a maitre d’? No, if you’re Hank Williams III (also known as “Hank III,”) you keep it going (as has his son, Hank IV.)
Hank III is an interesting cat. He spent much of his early career as a punk musician, and he has infused that energy into his love of traditional country music, often resulting in a raucous, punkified down-home listening experience.
“Not Everybody Likes Us,” however, is not a rowdy song, such as “Thrown Out of the Bar” is (both from Hank’s 2006 album, Straight to Hell.) “Not Everybody Likes Us” is your old-fashioned steel guitar and fiddle waltz. (Except for the lyrics, that is. Those are quite graphic in parts.)
The Williams family bloodline is doing quite well, thank you very much.
Link is to a great live performance, filmed right here in Denver in 2010:

I used that line about “pop country music on 98.1” in a presentation I did at the country music conference on “country songs about how country music doesn’t sound country anymore.” I also mentioned that he’s a combination of the reincarnation of his grandfather and the reincarnation of Joe Strummer.

@FourWalls - Ah, good old Doug Sahm. There was a band more people should have listened to.

Oh yes. Hank III is a blast! I can't say I've listened to Hank IV. I need to check him out, I guess.
