Not what you might expect to follow a reggae song, but here we are. This series is almost over, but not-quite-yet. So here is today’s tune: “Not Fragile” by Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Remember those radio-friendly hit singles like “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” or “Let it Ride,” or “Takin’ Care of Business?” If you’ve listened to Classic Rock Radio you have, at some point. Hell, if you watched enough television over the years, you’ve heard “Takin’ Care of Business” in like a gazillion commercials.
Yeah, well, “Not Fragile” doesn’t sound like any of those. “Not Fragile” is all muscular, crunchy riffs - heavy, in-your-face riffage. It’s the title track from the Canadian band’s 1974 triple-platinum album (#1 in both the U.S. and Canada.) It wasn’t released as a single (“You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was tacked onto the album late as a single because the record company heard no hit-single potential in the album as it was.) It wasn’t really single material - this is pretty heavy stuff for 1974.
So, since this is the middle of the night, be sure to turn it up really loud when you listen.

Yeah, those record companies and their “we don’t hear a hit” mentality. I wonder if they really said that to Elton John when “Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” clocking in at 6:45 in length and no “flow” melodically, was released from Captain Fantastic.
Good pick!

In a perfect world Elton John would be telling the record company what to do.

You know what I noticed if there is no bass guitar how flat the music sounds. It could be blended in great with the music where you barely notice it and song sounds great but if there is no bass, get this song out of my face.
This song does not have that problem but fragile does seem to be a thing.
We gonna bend you but not break you, that is a slippery slope most will not cross.
