My Newest Poem, Because It's Been A While Since I Shared One

She lit up his world like a Roman candle
But then disappeared in a flash,
took all that he thought they'd built,
and burned it straight to ash
If she comes back, slinking round,
He won't open that door again
He's not gonna wait around
For her to explain where she's been

I like the contrast between the opening and ending. The "Roman candle" image captures how quickly something bright can burn out, and by the end you can really feel that the speaker has reached the point of choosing self-respect over waiting for answers.
