While I try to make it a point to not repeat an artist in a countdown, a songwriter is a different story all together! So, if you remember yesterday’s artist, Rodney Crowell, you’ll see that he’s back…as co-writer! Here’s today’s song on the jukebox. #6: Amarillo - Emmylou Harris When I was in Amarillo last year this got a lot of airplay. Heck, this song can get a lot of airplay anywhere. It’s a hard-driving country song with an unusual twist on two lovers splitting: this time, his obsession with pinball and a jukebox with Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, and George Jones’ “The Window Up Above” on it steal his heart from his woman. Truthfully, I can see that happening. Don’t talk to me when “The Boys of Summer” comes on the restaurant radio. Emmylou was just getting going with this album, and Crowell was starting to get established as a songwriter…thanks in no small part to Harris recording his songs (she also recorded his song “Till I Gain Control Again” on this album). Fifty years later, and we’re talking two giants of country and Americana music. Amarillo Written by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell Recorded by Emmylou Harris From Elite Hotel, 1975 JUKEBOX LYRICS: I lost him to a jukebox and a pinball machine

The fact that you’ve heard of her is a win in my book.

@FourWalls I can't believe I will admit this But back in the day I would go to a Country and Western night in a local club

@Ineeddentures — there’s no crime in that. Not that I know of, anyway.

Now that is some honest-to-goodness authentic country music!

Yep, that put the oomph in the mid-70s country music.

@FourWalls - It's a possibility that in 1975 they might have been playing this on the country station that we picked up out of Fallon. They were playing stuff that sounded like this. Maybe I even heard it one day! Who knows?

I don't think I've heard this one, but I'm kind of ignorant of a lot of country music. I do love "The Boys of Summer", though!
