When I was looking outside past the deck I saw a medium sized turtle booking it for all he was worth in the woods behind the house. In the semi rare event I see a turtle it is usually after a rainstorm when they come out on the road to get warm, and they are always fairly small. This one was two or three times bigger than the ones I usually see. And it was so funny to see how fast he was going. He was also sticking his neck way out periodically like he was trying to get a good look at where he was going. Funny to see one so far from water. If that is what he was looking for he was going in the wrong direction. I did have one in the yard once..I am reasonably certain it got eaten by a snake because there was one in the vicinity.

This wasn't a big turtle by any means compared to some. I once saw somebody pull a 4 foot long turtle out of the lake..It was probably a snapping turtle. Those can break your arm. I have never seen anything like that in my part of the lake though.

If they are big enough they can. The snake in question was quite large.

They are fun to watch. We have a few small ones here in that swampy area

It's not wet back there. Nor is there a creek or anything. The water is in the opposite direction. No idea what he was after..

I should go to a nearby pond where there are often turtles sunning themselves

You could take a pic. They do like to dry off a bit on rocks or the road or something.
