Get Down With Your Funky Self - "Manic Monday"

I’m not going to guarantee that you’ve heard this particular “Get down” song - songs with “Get Down” in the lyrics - but there’s a good chance most of you have heard “Manic Monday” by the Bangles at some point in your life. If not, now’s your chance! “Manic Monday” was the Bangles breakthrough hit, all the way back in 1985. Now, it’s common knowledge that Prince wrote the song under the pseudonym “Christopher.” But if you were a Prince fan back then, just one listen to the lyrics and it was obvious just who this “Christopher” fellow actually was. Prince initially recorded the song as a duet demo intended for Appolonia 6. He was a fan of the Bangles debut album, All Over the Place, and offered them the song. Drummer/vocalist Debbi Peterson described the song as a “Banglefication of a Prince arrangement.” As far as “get down” is concerned, “Of all of my nights, why did my lover have to pick last night to get down?,” Suzanna Hoffs isn’t singing about going dancing. This is Prince, remember, the guy who once released an album called Dirty Mind. The song reached Top 5 status in 11 different countries, including #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (kept out of the #1 spot by none other than Prince, whose “Kiss” occupied the top of that chart.) My advice to the character singing the song: Don’t make your bed, and don’t go to work. You’ll have more time to get down! Link is to the official promotional video:

@AliCanary - He got away with a lot more than most. Of course, he was also singlehandedly responsible for the PMRC.

A rather tame lyric by Prince standards.

It's up there for me. "The Hero Takes a Fall" and "Hazy Shade of Winter" are my favorites by them.

I did too. I was a big Bangles fan back then. Like Prince, I really liked their first album.

Correct. Retirement means Monday is just another "what day is it again?" day. Good tune!

It looks like they are still active but only three remaining members from the classic lineup. Michael Steele is listed as a former member.
