Do you shop at Primark?

Primark is a budget clothing chain with many shops in the UK; I believe it also has branches around Europe and in the US. It definitely falls into the category of fast fashion because the clothes are produced very cheaply and not made to last. There’s a big branch near us and it’s very popular with teenagers looking for something they can afford, and with parents of young children – because they probably think that the clothes don’t need to last long anyway, they outgrow them! Still, I confess that I do buy things there from time to time. Things like tights never last me very long anyway, no matter where I buy them, my fingers often go through them as I pull them up, or else I wear out the heels or toes. And in many cases the fabric of garments is much the same as elsewhere, it’s the workmanship that’s somewhat rushed and shoddy. But I can sew, so repairing a badly-made garment is much cheaper and quicker than buying the fabric, cutting out all the pieces and then sewing the whole thing together! I bought a fleecy dressing gown from there when I was pregnant with Big One. Some of the stitching fell apart almost straight away but I just stitched the seams back together and ever since then it’s been absolutely fine. I remember wrapping it around me and carrying Big One snuggled within the fold on the day she was born. She’s now 20 so it is lasting pretty well really and no sign of wearing out yet! I’ve never heard of them. Of course, we have plenty of stores with cheap crap too that probably equals how poorly made those garments are in the store you’re talking about.

They really do sell what is now called 'fast fashion' which is really wasteful because I know that unlike me, many people would simply throw away a cheap garment that needed repair.
