Today's Visit With Mother-in-Law Was Mostly Good With a Slight Twist

Mother-in-law was in a good mood today. She was happy and unstressed. She seems to possibly be calming down and accepting her new surroundings and her "new normal."
We took her out to lunch and she ate well and enjoyed new scenery.
But then I looked down at her leg. She wears an ankle security monitor so that she can't "wander" out of the memory care facility. The transmitter in her ankle monitor locks down the doors.
The ankle monitor was covered in poop. I took her into the ladies' room and cleaned her up. The outside of her pants appeared clean. She did not know she had experienced an "accident."
When we got her back to her room we had a very gentle talk with her about not being embarrassed but trying to make her aware that she's having "accidents" and trying to talk her into wearing the incontinence disposable underwear that the care facility provides.
She didn't try to deny anything but she had that "deer in the headlights" look on her face as if she wasn't understanding anything that was going on.
It was very sad.
Just another sad effect of aging, diabetes, and Alzheimer's.
I always post a pink photo to accompany posts about MIL because her favorite color is pink.

Omg poor woman
I really feel for her.
I had no idea that one could poop one self and not know,
How long had she been walking about like that?
Does she dress herself?

Now that is just another problem in a long line of problems. I hope she will wear that underwear, but I also think that it is good and bad. First, good so no accidents and bad walking about with soiled underwear. Do you know what I mean?

That's so sad. Now to add to the stress and the situation, if and when you take her anywhere, you will have to check out her appearance somewhat and make sure she is good to go, so to speak.
I am glad they have those ankle monitors. So many Alzheimer's patients have wondered off over the years from facilities, that's a great idea.

I wish the facility had caught that. My mom used to mess her pants, but my dad resisted the diapers citing dignity (even though she wasn’t cognizant of what she was wearing). Eventually, he had to get the diapers when things started dropping out. Life can be cruel, but I’m glad to hear she was in a better mood and that you could help her.

You are so good to her.
I hope she can adjust wearing diapers, to avoid a sudden change of mood because of an accident. God bless her and your whole family.

She is really regressing quickly, I am so sorry.
My mother, who also suffered from the "Big A" was incontinent and into disposables before her memory completely failed her.
She probably gave you that look because she wasn't able to process what you were saying or referring to. The hippocampus is no longer accepting 'new information' which is the key think to remember with this illness.
