Bike Leans - Mt. Carbon

I gave my legs a break today. I chilled out, relaxed, did absolutely nothing but listened to records. Is it Miller Time? No. Is it Bike Lean Time? Yes. It’s Bike Lean Time! This is my mountain bike, Agent Orange, at the top of Mt. Carbon in Lakewood, Colorado. As you can see, Mt. Carbon oversees Bear Creek Lake Park (there are actually three lakes in the park) and the dam. It was all built in 1965 by the Army Corps of Engineers after a devastating flood in the area. Mt. Carbon takes its name from carbon deposits once found in the area. I can’t find any information on whether it’s a natural hill or if it was man-made as part of the dam. It’s a 567-foot climb to the top. You can either go up the bike path, which winds its way up through two golf courses, or up the mountain bike/hiking trail. Either way down is a blast, the mountain bike trail is the more fun, but I also haven’t mountain biked it in a long time. The summit not only offers some great photo opportunities, but there is a picnic bench, permanent outhouses, and a regularly-filled water supply for golfers, hikers, and cyclists. I can tell by the tires and lack of skull stickers, that I took this photo back in 2020, shortly after I bought Orange. I was actually just over there yesterday, but I climbed the service road and descended into the park from the other end. I haven’t climbed Mt. Carbon yet this year (we were about halfway up yesterday when we turned around, due to an electronic shifting problem on one of the bikes.) But I will. Maybe this week!
