I told you earlier that we picked up the items that I won at the auction. I think my favorite are the 12 strands of pearls that were listed as fashion jewelry. I was anxious to get them and take a look at them today because in the photos they did not look like fashion jewelry at all. There are several pairs of pearl earrings in this lot also, but they are for sure fashion jewelry. I believe there were 8 pairs in all. I was very surprised that only one other person bid on them and nobody after I bid. So I won the lot of them for only $12.50.
We opened the bag that they were packed in and my husband's first words were, "They look like antique real pearls from the color of them." He knows a fair amount about jewelry since he worked in a jewelry store before we got married and then after we got married bought a jewelry store and ran it for about 2 years before closing it down. It was when gold and silver and the economy crashed in the early 80's.
So back to the pearls. I took a strand out and my husband said they are not cheap fashion necklaces by looking at the findings. I told him I was fixing to check the markings on the findings and remarked at how heavy each stand was. Another good sign! The markings on 8 out of the 12 strands of pearls were all marked "Japan," meaning they were imported. My husband guessed around Vietnam war time.
We will be having this these tested to be sure they are authentic. But what a great find!
Have you ever gotten "lucky" at an auction and gotten an expensive item for very little?

Never participate in any auction at all.
Congratulations on winning one.

@kareng You're really great at it then.
I'm not good with bargains or finding something that are great finds.

No, never found a Picasso in an “empty” picture frame. That’s super cool.

That would be super if they turn out to be authentic. Yes, be sure to get them properly appraised.

I don't know about that, but my husband had some coins he sold. Some were worth more than he thought and some weren't worth much because the collection was wasn't complete.

Yes! The only thing I messed up on and it was because it was late at night when I put bids in is on the punch bowl ladle. I thought it was a bundle of 3 ladles and I thought, I have a couple of punch bowls without ladles, so this is perfect! It was one glass ladle and not 3. Oh well, still useful!

I have not been lucky enough to win anything at an auction before. Congratulations that you won a good deal at the auction.

I think you could be in luck with those pearls
I hope so anyway
I got a watch in a job lot that I paid £10 for
The watch was a Tag Heuer and a friend gave me £100 for it , so I take it it was worth more.
That was over £30 years ago and I was needing the money so I took his offer gladly
