A week of monsoon rains and flooding

It's been a week of heavy monsoon rains here in the western part of Luzon. I feel so sorry for the cities and provinces that are still dealing with floods and for the people who remain in evacuation centers. We are safe where we are and able to go out, though on-site classes remain suspended. We've been having more rains than usual given that it's a year of El Nino and we've got like 3 weather systems right now pulling the monsoon rains. It's been quite cold, too, and I'm seriously loving it (if not for the floods that paralyze many commuters). Tomorrow, Friday, is a public non-working holiday. We're expecting better weather too. I will probably go to a supermarket to stock up on essentials. More typhoons will come, for sure. Best to be prepared. I'll be prepping my simple lunch after posting this. I heated some leftover chicken afritada (chicken stewed in tomato sauce) and made a new batch of steamed rice. Daughter #2 is still having online classes while Daughter #1 is asleep after a heavy breakfast of omelet and rice. I should be waking her up for her 12:30 pm class. See you all in a bit.

There are three storms circling our land, but none seem to be making landfall. Instead, they’re just drawing in the monsoon rains, causing it to pour nonstop.

@nawala123 I guess being in the same region, it’s expected to be like that. Our islands are always under threat of flooding during the monsoon season.

I was surprised to see the sun a while ago. I hope it lasts, as there are about three storms nearby causing the monsoons to continue wreaking havoc in many places. I keep monitoring the movement of the monsoon rains since they’re so unpredictable—disappearing for a while and then suddenly returning without warning.

@almostoveryou Yes, allowing local LGUs to make their own decisions facilitates quicker and easier implementation because they are the ones who can see the actual state of affairs in their communities.

It seems that weather will always be unpredictable. Nature will wreak havoc when and where it wants to. I hope and pray that those who have been displaced can return to their communities as soon as possible. I'm also deeply concerned about learning interruptions due to massive rainfall and flooding. I heard from the DepEd that local government units can now decide if they wish to proceed with on-site classes despite the national government's order to suspend. I would very much like that. Today, we barely had rains. It's been sunny since this morning - but my daughters are home for online classes and asynchronous mode of learning. I wish they'd gone to school instead.

It's actually quite sunny today. The weather bureau said good weather will persist until about Sunday afternoon. Then we can expect rains again. I'm hoping that the floods subside before Sunday.
