Frisson. That’s what it’s called when you hear a song and it gives you goosebumps. That’s what today’s song can do for me when I haven’t heard it in a long time. Checking the clip I’m posting, I felt the remarkable happiness of hearing this great song again, as if for the first time. Jump on the riverboat and let’s head to New Orleans! #4: New Orleans Ladies - Le Roux And you say, “Hey, wasn’t this on your 100 favorites list?” Yes, it was, thanks for noticing! Well, here we go with the hookers again. Yeah, you can make a case that this isn’t about prostitutes. But there aren’t a lot of other “professions” where the employees “strut and sway from dusk til dawn.” This is a lovely song (substitute a couple of pages of the phone book for the lyrics and include those sweet, sweet harmonies and it’d still be a good song). It was the first time I heard of these guys. I got to see them live, opening for the Kinks, a couple of years before they had their “one hit” (1982’s “Nobody Said It Was Easy [Lookin’ for the Lights]”). Mostly, their success has been confined to their home state. I’m certainly glad that this song made it out of Louisiana and into the national spotlight.
