Been A Great Musical Morning

I got to meet Eddy Raven a few years ago at the Fair. He played on the “country gold” tour. I told him how much I loved “Touch the Morning,” a song he wrote that Don Gibson had a hit with. He beamed…then sang me the extra verse that Gibson didn’t use in his recording.

Yes, that’s an interesting musical comparison. Eddy Raven is one of those artists who can get overlooked because Jimmy Buffett became so strongly associated with the whole “island” sound in popular culture. Raven’s Cajun roots, country background, and occasional Caribbean/Reggae influences gave his music a distinctive blend. And the fact that he was exploring that sound before Buffett became a household name makes the comparison even more interesting. If you're looking at musical history, it’s a good reminder that the artist who becomes most famous isn't necessarily the artist who started or developed an idea first.
