My grandfather, Boota Singh, was one of the first from our family to join the military. Towards the end of the 19th century, the British were in complete control of India, and the only job that carried respect was joining the British Indian Army. Mind you, hardly any job was available at that time My great-grandfather went to Meerut and was promptly selected as a sepoy in the Frontier Regiment. In those days, it was a great honor to serve in the British Indian Army, and the entire village celebrated his induction. He was sent for training. I really don't know where, but he was drafted to fight in the Afghan War. Not much is known about him because he left no notes. But now I do feel happy that he served in the British Indian Army and set up a tradition that has continued for four generations. I hope you all will like this little bit of information
