While driving home from Montana, I noticed that my most comfortable left arm position exposed my funny bone at the elbow. I got a couple of those nasty "electric shocks" (not funny at all) and then noticed that my left pinky, and eventually left ring finger, were feeling a bit numb and tingly. By the time I got home to California, my left pinky was basically a log, and my ring finger was both disobedient and tingly. I wondered if I was developing some disabling disease (playing difficult guitar was futile), but hoped that the nerve that runs through the funny bone controls the pinky and ring finger on that hand. It turns out that the "funny bone" IS the "family" name for the "ulnar" nerve, and that the ulnar nerve (or bundle of neurons) IS what controls both sensory and motor functioning in the pinky and ring finger. I was relieved. Now, a few days later, I am getting sensation back in my left pinky and ring fingers. and I can (almost) play guitar decently again. So how shall I remember "ulnar" I noticed that it's an anagram for "lunar,so I thought of my wounded pinky dancing on the moon. Hopefully that will be enough. Have you ever banged your funny bone?
